Wheres the project of the week
cody < Uh-Oh, No image was made!> palm bay, floirida USA - Friday, October 21, 2005 at 17:24:24 (EDT)

Here's a cool project... SUPERNANNY TEAMS WITH AN ACCLAIMED AUTISM EXPERT TO HELP A CHILD WHO IS AN OUTSIDER IN HIS OWN HOME ON "SUPERNANNY," NOVEMBER 4 "Facente Family" -- Supernanny Jo Frost teams with world-renowned autism expert Dr. Lynn Koegel to tackle the parenting issues faced by a family whose three-year-old son is an outsider in his own home. This episode of "Supernanny" airs on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC. Deirdre and Trae Facente don't know how to integrate their autistic son Tristin into their daily life with their twins, Kayla and Marlana (4). Tristin is completely non-verbal, caught up in his own world of spinning, jumping, swinging and, often, taking off his clothes. The only time he spends with his family is sitting at the dinner table. The twins, who demand much of their stay-at-home mom's attention, can't figure out how to play with their little brother. The parents are at a loss as to how to help Tristin come out of his zone and join the family. Enter Dr. Koegel and Supernanny. Together they refine the classic Supernanny methods and teach all the Facentes Dr. Koegel's inclusion and communication techniques to help engage Tristin. For example, when they introduce the new daily schedule to everyone, Dr. Koegel uses a picture board with Tristin to help him understand in a concrete way. Lynn Kern Koegel, Ph.D is one of the world's foremost experts on the treatment of autism. She and her husband, Robert L. Koegel, Ph.D., founded the renowned Koegel Autism Center at the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She co-wrote the bestselling book on autism, Overcoming Autism: Finding the Answers, Strategies, and Hope that can Transform a Child's Life, which was recently released in paperback, and also co-authored, with Robert Koegel, the new book, Pivotal Response Treatments for Autism.

Would you like to do a half hour STAR appearance at the Surfside Elementary Fall Fest? We'd love to have you there, and the kids would SUPER love it- especially if there were a rocket involved! Top 2 choices would be Indians and Astronauts or Astronauts & Rockets. Please call me or Cheryl. See you at the next show!

You can see regularly scheduled shows every Monday at 4 p.m. at the Satellite Beach Recreation Center, every Second Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Eau Gallie Civic Center, and at lots of other schools, libraries, rec-centers and special events. Also, if you follow me around I've been known to spontaneously perform science demonstrations whenever the opportunity arises.

I have never been to this site before but Ijust need ideas for my science fair project oh yeah..I just wanted to say hi!!
Asia Andrews < Uh-Oh, No image was made! > 19:54:55 (EST)

Hi! Thanks for visiting. The good news is that there are lots of lists on the internet with ideas for science projects. The best projects are the ones you create yourself though. If you do use one from a list remember to change it a little so it's not the same old thing. The judges are looking for originality as well as good science procedures. If your not sure where to start then try making your own list of three of your favorite things to do in your spare time. One of those things can be turned into a Science Fair project if you think about it!

I'd like to take my 3 year old to one your space shows.
Are you always in Melbourne or do you perform in
Cocoa Beach anywhere?
Lisa Stotz < Uh-Oh, No image was made! > 09:34:35 (EST)

The closest regularly scheduled shows to Cooa Beach are in Cocoa, Satellite Beach and Merritt Island. the City of Satellite Beach hosts a Mr. Science show every Monday at 4:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center! During the Summer the Cocoa Library and the Merritt Island Library often schedule one or two shows as well. Many schools and Daycares in the Cocoa Beach area also schedule an occasional performance. I checked the city's official website and found no classes in their recreation page, maybe they should call me!

I really want to look for a science project, could you help me?
meanie ortiz 18:13:10 (EST)

Sure, check the back shelf of my refrigerator! Yikes! If that's too scary then try and turn something you already like to do into a project. First, choose something you like doing. Everyone is an expert at something. To make a science project, try predicting what will happen if you do the thing you like doing differently. Look for a pattern that tells you what will happen then see if you can change the pattern. If every time you make a change the same thing happens you may have discovered a new pattern! If your change makes the world a better place - that's even better. Writing down instructions so someone else can try and do what you did is called a science project! Simple isn't it?

Hello from the moderator of the Mad Scientist group on Yahoogroups! Thank you for listing my group in your Yahoo Profile "Cool examines"!

I worked for Mad Science in Tacoma for a few months but the pay was way too low for time spent and I was very unhappy with the high number of inaccuracies and lack of concern about them.

I built some of my own props including a speaker. I used a thin clear plastic cup, glued a plastic tube on the bottom with quite a few turns of enameled wire around it. Then with a radio connected to the wires, I'd hold it by the top edge and move a bar magnet into the center of the plastic tube. Tada! Music!

I love science and electronics. I built two phones when I was a kid. I had two of those 2K metal plate headphones. I took two of the speakers apart, took the wiring out and filled them with crushed carbon from the center rod of some carbon-zinc batteries. I soldered one wire to the metal plate and one to the metal that had held the speaker wire. Then with 6 volt lantern batteries, I connected one microphone and one speaker and one 6V lantern battery in series, then the same with the other. I even made them so you could hang them up using shoe boxes to hold everything and cut up tin cans with shock resistant material bands as springs, so when you picked up the earphone the shock resistant material bands pulled the tin can hooks up to make contact with another piece of tin can.

Not very loud, but it worked!

IDOLMOTOR,You can see basicly in yahoo in internet
6 years ago born and developed by related othorities
it use in every land-navy-air vehicles and presents new era

50cmx50cm0 size,108kg weight idolmotor is 1500HP at 9000rot/min.
%70 fuel efficiency(Diesel engine is %37.4)
basic,strong,silent,clean exhaust.

Now,automobiles can fly

You know, flying vehicles needs high performance e.g.ordinary helicopter has min.500HP engine, big fuel tank, noisy, clumsy and expensive

Idol motor is a new engine
It is in ordinary automobile with flat propeller both fly and run in traffic. When it fly,it can stay long time and its behavior like helicopter, when it is on the road or in the city,it is ordinary automobile.

A colleague mentioned Mr. Science to me. Is this a program? I am looking for enrichment activities for an after school program.
James Thornton <jthornton@ cucps.k12.va.us>

Hi James, thanks for writing.
The "Mr. Science Show" is based in Brevard County, Florida (home of the Space Shuttle). The shows have been seen on Time Warner Cable and also on home videos. Live shows are seen weekly throughout central Florida at schools, rec-centers and special events.
The "Mr. Science after school programs" were developed to provide a series of interactive presentations throughout the school year (A different topic is presented each week).
A typical Mr. Science presentation might include live animals, dynamic stunts, audience participation, unusual science equipment, strange inventions and a lot of cleaning up.

In American culture the name "Mr. Science" has come to define any nerdy know-it-all and many communities have their own "Mr. Science". This "Mr. Science Show" has been entertaining and educating children and families in the southeast for over a decade! I don't know if your colleague was refering to me or not but here are the closest science performers I found to your county....
------------------------------------------------------
In Virginia, I found a science "road show" that very close to you. I don't know the gentleman but here are the links I found. I believe you are within the range he is willing to travel!
http://phun.physics.virginia.edu/
http://faculty.virginia.edu/sthornton/home.html
------------------------------------------------------
Another potential source in your state might be the "Wood Magic Show" and their Traveling Classroom...
http://woodmagic.forprod.vt.edu/
------------------------------------------------------
A "Traveling Science Show" that covers virginia was also found at the Franklin Institute...
http://www.fi.edu/tfi/programs/travshow.html
-----------------------------------------------------
Other similar items can be found by searching
for "Virginia science show" in your favorite search engine.

I saw your presentation last Thursday evening at Bessey Creek Elementary and thought you were great. I spoke to you afterwards regarding our Girl Scouts. I don't know if you remember me since you talk to so many people. I have only 10 girls in my troop. I'm looking at my badge book and also will try to see if another troop or two would like to join us. This way we can work on a patch together by having you do a program. Will let you know.

Thanks,

Each year Tim brings his Mr. Science Show to the Melbourne Arts Festival, Kids World. We offer crafts, face painting, magic shows, clowns, etc., but the most important ingredient of Kids World is the Mr. Science Show. Tim captures the attention of 2 year olds through grandparents with his program. In addition to his fun and interesting program he also acts as MC for the weekend. He is one of the most versatile entertainers. If you are considering offering a fun, educational and thoroughly entertaining program for children, the Mr. Science Show is it.

I saw your Halloween show at the Blake Library in Stuart today and LOVED it! After dinner, I got right onto your website. 99% of it is very good, but you have some spelling and punctuation errors that need to be corrected on your "Shows" page. If you're interested in making any corrections, e-mail me back and I'll e-mail them back to you. Keep up the good work! Adele Kauffman

How do I see the movies?
Mike Robinson <m.m.robinson@ home.com>

Hi Mike,
Thanks for visiting the Mr.Science Show website. The movies section is "still under construction" and also terribly ignored! I've been writing webpages and collectiing videos to put on them in my spare time between shows. I have lots of stuff but I havent posted it all yet. Stay tuned for when I eventually dump it all on the web in one huge collection! In the meantime, you'll need the Quicktime player available from Apple (for Macs or for Windows). here are the links for the main page and also the temporary stuff I put there until I can load more movies. The Movies Page Link is BBX~TV.html Also, here are some actual Movie Links... (mostly tests while I learn the software!)

Mr. Science, you saved the day at my daughters 'pool' party today. I can not thank you enough for agreeing to come at the last minute. My daughter thought it was the "coolest". The kids had a blast making the video and the adults enjoyed watching just as much. The 20 kids plus parents were a handful and you were wonderful. For anyone who is htinking of hiring Mr. Science for a show, I HIGHLY reccommend him. Thank you again. I really appreciate your time and the memories you helped make today. I'm sure we'll see you again. Sincerely, Mary P

If you send mail or wish to have your children correspond with others, please check to make sure your internet service provider is set to allow replies. Because I'm concerned about privacy (especially for kids) I've assigned my elusive "pen pals" a secret code name so that I can respond to them here in a public place without using there real screen name. Hi A and A, Thank for visiting my site!
You might have recieved an automatic e-mail from the robot that runs it for me but just ignore that. I don't know what reading level you are at or which branch of science you are interested in so it would be hard to recomend a book that would be just right for you. I have an unfinished list of books I like on the Mr. Science Library page so try some of those if you like. I'm working on a list of cool science links to post on my website and even though I'm not finished here's a sneak preview.....

  Dear Mr. Science:

Thank you for all the great shows you brought to
our daughter's school last year. Now that she is
home more for the summer, we are getting the time
to do more science together at home, and my husband
and I are very impressed with all she has learned
from you! She still talks about you a lot, and
she thinks you're great! We all do! As a matter of fact,
we think you're Sciensational!:)
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm with our family!
Love, Ada's Family!
P.S. Have you heard about the new West Melbourne

I just wanted to confirm for this Friday the 19th. The children come in from recess at 12:30, so if you could be ready to 'go' at about 12:45, that would be great. I was going to let you know what show - but after reviewing your website, I still don't know. Can I leave it up to you to select what ever you feel a class of second graders will enjoy? I will meet you at the school around 12:30-ish. Please call me or email me if you have any questions. Thanks
